The shelves are finished with stain, but some users suggest the need for sanding and sealing as they could create splinters. The shelves are attached to the metal bracket with four screws, and the holes are on 16-inch centers for wall studs. The towel rack, which needs to be aligned before screws are screwed in, can be installed or not. The shelves hold a lot more than they appear and are very sturdy. The adhesive used to attach them to the wall is very strong. However, one reviewer mentioned that they are worried about the stability of the shelf outside the shower as it appears less sturdy.
