Because of the starting load of the compressor. A motor has what's called end rush when start up and has a heavy load when starting. you need about a 250 to 300w power supply.

If it has an electric motor, the amperage drawn on startup is going to be greater than what is listed on the appliance. Anything listed close to 10a with an electric motor probably will not work and you’ll probably blow the fuse trying to run anything listed at over 10a. How would it be possible for a 15a compressor to run off a power source capable of 10a? What 12v appliance runs on 15a? That would easily kill a car battery in few hours.
