Answer: They don't require a backer washer, but if your situation is different than normal, you could use one. -

Can I use a regular hand rivet gun or must it be air powered?
Answer: Hand gun will work provided you have the correct diameter tool (head) for the selected rivet. Many handguns have different size heads that you can switch out.
